State Negotiators November 2019 Meeting

  • Existing Business Members may attend lunch and the presentation portion of the meeting. Reports and updates on settlements are closed to just school negotiators.
  • Drop-in attendance to the meeting. Fee pays for lunch, facility, and administration costs.
  • Attendance for full State Negotiators members.
  • This session is free to Full members of the State Negotiators and MASPA Business members.
  • $35 registration fee applies for non-Full members of State Negotiators. This session is free to Full members of the State Negotiators and MASPA Business members.

All event registrations require you to be either an active School or Business member, even for "drop-in" attendance. When you click the "register" button you'll be prompted for your email if you aren't logged-in.

NOTE: Location of this meeting differs from the usual.   We will be at the DoubleTree at 494 & 100.

NOTE 2: The sequence of the agenda for this meeting differs from the usual.  The first half of the meeting will be the closed conversation on negotiations and settlements.  Two alternate roundtable topics are available to all registrants.

Agenda:

  1. * Closed Session* Reports and Updates on Settlements
    Please come prepared to share a brief update as to where you are in the process of negotiating your teachers’ contract.  Specifically please share the main issues they have brought to the table as well as any other issues or proposals you feel would be of interest to the group.

    Legislative update and other Announcements 

    * Open Sessions, concurrent with the closed sessions *
    These options available to any registrant not participating in the closed sessions.

    #1. Angela Mansfield, Teacher Effectiveness Specialist in the School Support Division of MDE, will host a roundtable discussion: MDE's efforts to increase and diversify the educator workforce.

    #2. Kent Schutte, President / CEO of EFS, and Chris Williams of EBC will host a roundtable discussion on topics related to employee retirement plans, including:  
    1. The MN 403(b) statute and how it compares to the federal limit.
    2. The value of Roth 403(b) for school employees
    3. The required changes in 403(b) plan documents and the importance of getting them done by March 2020.

  2. 1:30pm: PELSB Update, Alex Liuzzi, Executive Director Minnesota Professional Educators Licensing and Standards Board, will join the group with an update on tiered licensure, including: rulemaking, license applications, application processing. He'll also respond to your questions regarding specific scenarios as you seek to meet your staffing goals.
