State Negotiators January Meeting

Registration

  • Standard and Premier Business Members may attend the program portion of the meeting. Reports and updates on settlements are closed to just school negotiators.
  • Basic Business Members may attend the presentation portion of the meeting. Reports and updates on settlements are closed to just school negotiators.
  • Drop-in attendance to the meeting. In-person or virtual. For non-dues paying members and partners.
  • Attendance for full State Negotiators members.

Register

This in-person meeting begins with plated lunch from 11:30 to 12:30.  The presentation portion of the meeting is available via virtual attendance beginning around 12:30.

Meeting Agenda:

  1. Introduction, review of norms, and meeting agenda

  2. Coordinating Statutory Leave Programs and Collective Bargaining Agreements

    Join Tim Sullivan of Ratwik, Roszak, & Maloney, P.A., for a discussion on navigating the complexities of statutory leave programs and their intersection with collective bargaining agreements. This session will explore the coordination of Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) and Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) statutes, highlighting the legal and practical challenges for labor relationships. Topics of discussion include ensuring compliance with changing state mandates, aligning statutory leave with existing contract provisions, and addressing overlaps or conflicts between leave policies. Tim will also discuss strategies for negotiating collective bargaining agreements that balance staff needs and districts' financial realities while maintaining legal compliance

  3. Panel Discussion: Supplemental Health Plan Benefits in Schools

    Explore how programs such as mental health support, wellness programs, and critical illness coverage can impact staff well-being, improve retention, and address evolving needs. Gain insights on budgeting, vendor selection, and building healthier school communities.


  4. Reports and Updates on Settlements, Arbitration, and BMS Rulings.

    ** Closed Session - available to only those actively representing school management in negotiations **

    Moderated group discussion: members share a brief update as to where they are in the process of negotiating teachers’ and other contracts. Includes main issues they have brought to the table as well as any other issues or proposals you feel would be of interest to the group.

    Attendees are invited to share about arbitration results and BMS rulings such as representation votes and contract scope rulings.
